THE ATLANTIC SHARK INSTITUTE
ROLE: Field videographer
The Atlantic Shark Institute is a Rhode Island based nonprofit, tax exempt charitable organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. They are a shark research organization with a volunteer staff of more than 50 committed individuals, and an esteemed Research Advisory Board consisting of some of the Atlantic’s most respected shark scientists.
The Atlantic Shark Institute leads and funds research on shortfin mako, great white, blue, porbeagle, common thresher, spinner, blacktip, sand tiger and many other species of sharks with the singular goal of answering questions critical to their protection and sustainability.
I worked as a videographer on several research vessels for the ASI throughout 2024 and 2025. During this time, I worked on the ASI's film collaboration with PBS and Silent Flight Studios, Chasing Fins.
The documentary unites the stories of shoreline birds, underwater meadows, whales, and sharks—all bound by a single truth: healthy shorelines and marine systems are vital for the survival of species and people alike. In Rhode Island, the interface between land and sea is more than a postcard view—it’s a living, breathing system in need of recognition and protection.
